MPS-GPA: Good Practice for the Auction

MPS-GPA is a certificate for the auctions.This certificate basically has the same requirements as the MPS-Florimark GTP certificate for trading companies, and assures the traceability of flowers. MPS GPA is part of the MPS Florimark Auction certificate. With this certificate the auction also meets the environmental, quality and social requirements of the clients. 

MPS-GPA contains requirements for:

  • Traceability of the purchased products;
  • Specification of quality;
  • Distribution;
  • Delivery,
  • Transport;
  • Complaints;
  • Cooperation in the field of purchasing and information exchange;
  • Quality and environmental policy;
  • Human resources (training, health and safety)

Florimark GTP: Good Trade Practice

The Florimark GTP scheme is an important part of MPS-Florimark Trade. Florimark GTP sets requirements in the areas of freshness, initial checks, storage, stock management, distribution and traceability of purchased flowers and plants in the trading channel. These similar to the requirements set for Florimark TraceCert, but at a higher high level. Additional requirements apply in the case of Florimark GTP, relating to social aspects, the environment and collaboration in the chain.

The certification phase

The certification phase comprises the following elements:


You can apply for ISO 9001:2008 certification by completing the application form and by mailing it to us. You will receive a quotation and an agreement as soon as we receive your completed application form. The agreement can be signed once the quotation is approved from your end. The certification phase can then start.

British supermarkets such as Tesco set certain requirements for horticultural suppliers with regard to social conditions. In order to prove that you meet such requirements, your company can be audited for the ETI criteria or can register for the MPS Socially Qualified certificate. The ETI Base Code can be found on Internet:

Difference between ETI and MPS Socially Qualified

ETI was primarily developed for the British market. MPS Socially Qualified is suitable for all countries on the other hand, and has broader international support among NGOs and trade unions. The ETI Base Code is very similar to MPS Socially Qualified, but concentrates on the floriculture wholesale and supply companies. 

Certification process

On request, ECAS audits companies for the ETI criteria and, if they are compliant, supplies them with a conformity statement. ECAS is increasingly requested to conduct an audit of the nine ETI criteria due to its expertise in the field of social audits.

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point

It is a matter of life and death that producers of food make sure that their products do not form any risk to the general food safety. New legislation and rules within the European Union demand from the producers that they work systematically on a HACCP system in which specific demands concerning food safety are included. A HACCP certificate shows that a producer identifies, evaluates and controls significant and potential hazards on a systematically way. ECAS will audit the HACCP system on 6 month bases during a period of 1 year. After this yearly audits are performed. The audits can be carried out in one or more days. This is dependant of the complexity of the company and the number of employees.

In a summary the HACCP mark stands for

  • A certificate that guarantees a system of food safety;
  • To exclude risks for food safety;
  • Designed from law and rules;
  • HACCP guidelines which are under supervision of the Central College of Experts (CCvD);
  • Proving of corrective and preventive measures concerning food safety;
  • A HACCP systematic which unites well with ISO 9000.
